Photodynamic Therapy
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a 2 step drug and blue light treatment. It uses a photosensitizer or photosensitizing agent, and a distinct light. When photosensitizers are exposed to a specific light wavelength, they produce a form of oxygen that kills nearby cells. PDT has proven ability to kill microbial cells, including bacteria, fungi and viruses and is widely used for acne and Actinic Keratoses (rough, dry, scaly patches on the skin caused by long term exposure to UV light).
